與定鉗盤式制動器相反，浮鉗盤式制動器的單側(cè)液壓缸結(jié)構(gòu)不需要跨越制動盤的油道，故不僅軸向和徑向尺寸較小，有可能布置得接近車輪輪轂，而且制動液受熱汽化的機會較少。

轎車制動器已基本實現(xiàn)前盤后鼓的配置，甚至部分檔次稍高的轎車已實現(xiàn)前后均為盤式制動。隨著我國汽車工業(yè)的發(fā)展，國家標(biāo)準(zhǔn)對汽車制動性能的要求日益嚴(yán)格，在一些商用車上也開始出現(xiàn)前盤后鼓，甚至前盤后盤的配置。 GB7258-2012（2012年9月1日起實施）明確提出：專用校車和危險貨物運輸車的前輪及車長大于9m的其他客車的前輪應(yīng)裝備盤式制動器。

此外，浮鉗盤式制動器在兼充行車和駐車制動器的情況下，不用加設(shè)駐車制動鉗，只須在行車制動鉗液壓缸附近加裝一些用以推動液壓缸活塞的駐車制動機械傳動零件即可。
